Raritan Employees Turned Home Builders for Charity

Power Monitoring.

Power management.

Power tools.

What do these 3 have in common? Raritan employees! On a normal workday, Raritan makes software that helps make life easier for data center managers but every now and then they pick up power tools to help those who need a place to call home.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit volunteer organization that builds and rehabilitates homes for families in need of shelter. Habitat homes are given to these families in return for hours of their own labor and monthly mortgage payments financed by donations and affordable loans.

Raritan employees took time away from designing power monitoring and management software to hold both a bake sale and a car wash to collect donations for Habitat for Humanity. Each employee that participated donated their time and money to the foundation to help those less fortunate.

While this team’s usual 9-5 work day consists of crossing off items on to do lists and participating in meetings, I’m sure they would say that devoting a rainy day to building roofs over people’s heads is more rewarding.

Attention Northeast consultants, IT and Facilities folks!!! Join us at Boston F1 on August 30th to learn about data center technologies and race!

Have you ever wished you were racing cars like Dale Earnhardt Jr., Danica Patrick, Michael Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton instead of racing around a data center? Here is your chance and you’ll earn BICSI CEC’s.

Come as our guest for breakfast, a few presentations on the latest data center technologies and lunch. Then experience real head-to-head racing at F1 Boston’s indoor karting. You’ll drive high-performance karts capable of 45 mph which seems extremely fast as you try to navigate a track designed by professional racers to maximize the challenge for both experienced and novice drivers.

Join Active Power, E-Systems Group, OptiCool, Raritan and Xirrus to learn about:

  •   Design Efficiency and Integration at the Cabinet
  •   Intelligent rack PDUs
  •   415V Design
  •   High performance wireless networks
  •   Advance cooling solutions
  •   How to get utility funding from National Grid

Then see if you have what it takes to rack up fast lap times and pass other racers on the track.

Racing is optional.

Use Multiple Interfaces for Convenient Backup Access

June 27, 2012

In previous blog entries, we’ve seen that a truly 100% homogeneous data center environment is far from the norm.  Rare is the data center that relies on a single server vendor or server type.  As a result, multiple management tools are often used, which can be a nightmare in its own right.  Managing a bunch of management tools seems a little redundant.

But maybe you are a one-stop-shop.  Perhaps you’ve configured all your Dell blade servers for easy management access via DRAC.  You’re on easy street, right?  Or you’ve virtualized.  You’re the resident VMware hero and you’re saving more money on hardware and power than you originally thought possible.  But you have all those DRAC connections on a secondary LAN.  What if you lose access?  Or you find yourself unable to restart a virtual machine through vCenter?  What then?
