NASHVILLE, TENN. (October 1, 2012) – How Smart Rack solutions help improve data center operations will be the focus of Raritan’s participation at this week’s AFCOM Data Center World conference.  By leveraging advanced management solutions for the rack, IT and facilities professionals are able to efficiently manage key data center resources—including energy, assets, capacity, and connections—that influence and impact uptime and performance.

Visitors will be shown smart solutions for reducing the energy needed to power servers and cool data centers, finding infrastructure capacity to expand the life of a data center, and improving asset “change, move and add” processes.  Featured in Booth # 644 will be Raritan’s dcTrack® DCIM software, PowerIQ® energy management software, intelligent rack PDUs, a smart electronic asset-tracking solution and other solutions designed to help manage data centers resources efficiently and smartly.

The demonstration of Raritan’s Smart Asset Tracking solution, for example, will show how to reduce costs, errors and headaches by improving data center inventory accuracy.  By automatically capturing each activity performed at the rack when it happens, the electronic asset-tracking solution insures that a data center’s change policy is followed –– and that inventory records are always accurate ––  eliminating the days of outdated and inaccurate spreadsheets and hours searching among racks for a target server.

Data centers are finding they must provide more and more power to their racks. The presentation addresses issues surrounding the deployment of high power, including the importance of circuit breaker monitoring and why seemingly unrelated issues, such as heat, become a major concern. Many data center managers are doing a good job conserving energy, but this doesn’t mean that the average power consumption at the rack isn’t going up. In fact, the increased efficiency means more power is available for servers, which supports data center growth leading to high-density power consumption at the rack.
